While our previous favorite local beach was getting renovated, me and my three babes explored a bunch of other sandy day getaways. Check out our take on them, and my tips, tricks, and gear for a great beach day in the Washington DC region. In the summer of 2023, seven year old Perry will give his take on some of the places he will get to revisit during camp.

Our ‘Go Bag’ and How to Get Out of the House in 15 Minutes

When we want to go to the beach, we can be out the door in 10-15 minutes. That is with two young kids. Here’s how:

Almost all the time we have certain things always in the trunk of the car:

  • Cabana for shade
  • Chairs — 2 for the adults and 2 for the kids
  • Bag of sand toys
  • Foldable cart
  • Tote with towels, sunscreen, and other necessities
Our trunk during beach season

With these items already in the car, to get out of the house in 15 minutes:

  • Everyone go to the bathroom
  • Everyone in bathing suits and sandals/crocs
  • Grab snacks
  • Fill water bottles

That’s it! We usually plan to grab lunch on the way out there, whether it is a pizza or sandwiches, so only need filled water bottles and snacks (typically veggie sticks, granola bars/bites, and fruit) for the ride.

You may have to add a change of clothes if anyone on your team is fussy about wearing bathing suits both ways. We usually just wait till we get home to shower and change.

I will go into more detail in The Gear and The Tips for each of these. And happy to review different options. šŸ™‚
